Letterkenny Institute of Technology, originally Regional Technical College, Letterkenny is a third-level institution in Donegal and other parts of northwest Ireland that was established in the second half of the twentieth century. The institute first opened its doors in 1971. The institution has a sister branch in Killybegs. It offers a variety of undergraduate and graduate degree programs that lead to officially recognized degrees. For the past five decades, the university has used a discriminatory admissions process based on a student's previous academic grades and record.

A Student Contribution Charge and Tuition Expenses are included in full-time undergraduate students' course fees. Full-time undergraduate students are categorized as one of the following for fee purposes:

• Students are only responsible for the Student Contribution payment under the Free Fees Scheme.
• EU Fees: The Student Contribution Charge, as well as the EU Tuition Fees, are the responsibility of the student.
• Non-EU Fees: Any student who does not match the conditions for Free Fees or EU Fees, regardless of nationality or citizenship, shall be charged Non-EU Fees. €3,000 is the Student Contribution Charge.

Entry requirements for Undergraduate courses in Letterkenny Institute of Technology:

• LyIT requires a minimum undergraduate IELTS score of 5.5, with no band lower than 5.0.
• LyIT requires a minimum undergraduate TOEFL score of 70, with a minimum score of 15 in each component.
• In LyIT, the minimum PTE required for undergraduates is 42.
• Candidates must have finished their XII grade or High School Diploma with a minimum English and Mathematics score of 60%.
