The Limerick Institute of Technology became the Technological University of the Shannon Midlands Midwest in May 2021. The Limerick Institute of Technology and Athlone Institute of Technology merged.

The Limerick Institute of Technology dates back to the School of Ornamental Art founding on Leamy Street in 1852. Its seed was planted by the Athenaeum Society, which aimed to establish a School of Arts and Fine Arts. Limerick was added to the list in 1974 due to the establishment of Regional Technical Colleges in several cities. It was once known as the College of Arts, Commerce, and Technology.
The Limerick Institute of Technology (LIT) is a constituent institute of the Technological University of the Shanon in Limerick, Ireland. Limerick, Thurles, and Clonmel in County Tipperary and a regional learning hub in Ennis, County Clare, are home to the institute. Moylish Park is home to the main campus.
In 2012, Delegated Authority was granted to Limerick Institute of Technology, and it merged with the Tipperary Institute. When we combine this institution's extensive history of transformation, LIT has progressed significantly from its inception as a School of Arts. EU and non-EU students pay different tuition fees for undergraduate courses. International students pay €10,250 as their tuition fee. Aside from that, there is a student contribution charge, which is included in the Limerick Institute of Technology's Undergraduate tuition fee. This cost has remained unchanged at €3,000.
